Final Friday Pick-up: April 13th

Posted 4/11/2018 5:54pm by Christy and Chris Kantlehner.

Ahoy Mateys! (How many times can we say "Howdy Folks"?)

Aye but you have faithfully shopped at the barn and alas our gigundo stack of carrots in the cooler has been whittled down to just a modest pile. That means we are going to take a (very) short hiatus and quit the online market after this week. So place your order and come meet it in the barn on this Friday the Thirteenth!

Breakfast Radishes, Mustard Mix, Red Russian Kale, Arugula. These pictures were taken around 5:15pm tonight! April 11th. in the high tunnel.

That's right! Feast your Eyes! Get Ready for a Fabulous Salad that is not based on spinach or grocery store salad greens. Wicked, Wicked Fresh! and don't worry, our bionic spinach will also be available!

Chris and I are currently driving to Boston to see one of our favorite musicians, Graham is at home with his grandpa, and we are going on a date just the two of us! So it is unlikely you will see these items on the virtual market. But rest easy, they will be present in our REAL Live Farmstand on Friday!!! Last virtual market of the season!

We will return for your grocery gathering pleasures during White Barn Farm's 2nd Annual EarthFest! Sunday, April 22nd, 12-4. Hopefully everyone traveling school vacation week will save a wee bit of energy to spend at White Barn Farm on Sunday. At least you can leave with your groceries for the week! Our farmstand will be open during the entirety of the fest!

Other awesome goings ons at EarthFest:

  • Pet Chuck the Goat from Treehouse Farms. We are loaning Farmer Katy the White Van so she can bring a mobile petting zoo.
  • Hand Crank the Popcorn Sheller to get those delicious seeds free from the cob. So much fun you won't know you're doing work!
  • Visit White Barn Farm's greenhouse and plant a seed in a pot to take home. Experience the magic of seeds on your windowsill at home!
  • Challenge yourself to identify vegetable plants in their seedling stage, double down by naming their plant family . . .
  • The talented Becky Sheerin (aka Ally Garcia's sister) is returning this year to do her unbelievable FacePainting. Art, Folks! Just Amazing.
  • Another talented mama will be returning to offer an upcycled craft. Kelsey, the mastermind of Hyphen Designs, brings new life and beauty to cast off fabrics to create adorable T-shirt twirly skirts, beautiful embroidered sweaters, wool jumpers, headbands, even pants made out of men's ties! Last year she offered a craft making a flower using old buttons and wool scraps. Not just for kids! Experience the reward of creating something beautiful with your own hands.his
  • Luke and Sonya Harms will be there sampling their Maple Syrup and talking about the sugaring process. Take this opportunity to meet the people behind that delicious Massachusetts Maple we sell at the farmstand!
We have several educational sessions throughout the day:

  • 12:30 pm: Farm Tour. An all-terrain walking tour (=no high heels but waterproof footwear encouraged) of the early spring fields at White Barn Farm. We will also take a look at our equipment and implements.
  • 1pm: Compost Tea Brewing with Jason Thompson of The Compost Plant, Rhody Gold Compost and natural Fertilizer products.
  • 2pm: Mushroom Log Inoculation with Farmer Sam of Crystal Springs in Plainville. Sam has been growing the oyster mushrooms you may have purchased through our online market this winter.
  • 3pm: Beekeeping Basics with Roger and Lauren from Franklin Honey,  the beekeepers and soap and hand cream and lip balm makers behind the wonderful bee-based products you find at the farmstand.

This IS a fundraiser, so we will be selling tickets to participate in most activities (carnival style). The parking fee is $10 and includes 5 tickets. In honor of Earth Day, Walkers and Bikers get 5 FREE tickets! Otherwise, Tickets are $2 each. Bring Cash! We can charge your credit card if you are buying $10 or more.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT FISH FRIDAY! Pre order at jordanbrothersseafood@yahoo.com and Bobby will have your fish ready for you. Otherwise, just stop by and see what's available.
